California Blog #39: The Star Spangled Issue

The fireworks are blazing in the sky, and America celebrate its birthday. It's the 4th of July!

I remember one time when my dad and I went on vacation to California to visit the Klavers, and we got to celebrate the 4th of July at the park in Santa Cruz. It was back in 2005. We got together, rock climbed, and saw the fireworks. It was huge! This is what the fireworks look like.

So here's what we're thinking. When I live in California sometime in the future, maybe we can plan on celebrating 4th of July at Santa Cruz and maybe have ourselves a 4th of July party at the Klavers house in Scotts Valley. We can have special Backyard BBQ burgers with sweet BBQ sauce glazed on with American cheese in it, and some hot dogs. And who could forget another choice of pulled pork sandwiches. We'll also have chips, soda, and fruit too.

Just imagine enjoying 4th of July here in California anytime we want! Won't that be fun?

My next idea for when we celebrate 4th of July is maybe shooting off some fireworks. If we wanna do that, we gotta buy ourselves some fireworks at the store first off.

Aunt Leta and Uncle Mark had an idea for next time we celebrate the 4th of July in California. Maybe if we're lucky, we can even celebrate it here at the Boardwalk. We can watch the fireworks at the beach while we have fun riding on the roller coasters, and even play video games too. We've been also thinking about some special fun-filled activities to try out too.

My next idea would also be celebrating it here in Capitola. We also do the same thing as usual, except one thing we haven't tried doing during this holiday. Get ourselves some pizza! (...or at least some seafood.) My dad would even take me out to go shopping at a clothing store where I try out new California shirts. I remember when my dad got me a special shirt though.

If I were like my dad, I'd listen to KPIG and hear music from that day and listen to the Star-Spangled Banner from a famous artist.  Just a thought...

In case you didn't know, before the fireworks start off every 4th of July, they stand up for the national anthem called "The Star-Spangled Banner". Everyone remembers that anthem of America. You've heard in major sporting events, historical presidential events in Washington D.C., and everywhere. Singing is what we celebrate every year in the 4th of July because that's a day it was signed in the year 1776. America always starts here in Philadelphia, PA.

Here's what the lyrics look like when you read them.

"O say, can you see

By the dawn's early light

What so proudly we hail'd

At the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars

Through the perilous fight

O'er the ramparts we watch'd

Were so gallantly streaming?

And the rocket's red glare

The bombs bursting in air

Gave proof through the night

That our flag was still there

O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free

And the home of the brave?"

Now that you know about the Star-Spangled Banner, you know a lot about celebrating the 4th of July.

So until next time, let freedom ring!

Next time we plan on celebrating 4th of July, let me know. Cause I really would love to spend time and celebrate it with you.
