California Blog #20: Mel's Drive-In/Tommy's Joynt
That year when we were in San Francisco before Miles and Shanann's wedding, my dad and I went to Mel's Drive-In restaurant for breakfast where the movie 'American Graffiti' was filmed.
In the future when I visit California or when I plan on moving back there, I wanna get together with my family for lunch or dinner at Mel's Drive-In. And maybe another day, I can invite my Aunt Leta and Uncle Mark to take them to Mel's Drive-In for a burger.
The way I see the inside of the diner looks like a themed cross between the 1950s and the early 1960s.
Maybe sometime in the future, we can go to Mel's and we can also see a drive-in movie. Cause to be honest with you guys, I haven't been to a drive-in movie before in my life, and I always wanted to do that ever since I went to the movies for the first time in years.
Whenever I visit Mel's, I would likely be interested in what's on the menu daily. For instance in many different times, I wanna have a milkshake like 'The Penguin', or an Oreo vanilla shake for dessert. Or maybe a deluxe sundae in black and white, banana split, or hot fudge sundae. Aunt Leta would like to try Marge's cherry pie, Uncle Mark can try the malt, and I can try the Belgian waffle sundae with vanilla ice cream, strawberries, and whipped cream.
Lunch time at Mel's calls for a grilled cheese combination or the Famous Melburger with a side of fries.
Dinner at Mel's can be the time I try Mel's southern fried chicken with fries, and a roll. My family and friends would like that.
Maybe someday when I visit Mel's once again (also for dessert), I call for root beer floats.
I have a lot of ideas planned for when we visit San Francisco once again for when we hang out, do fun stuff, others. And when I do, I have a lot to talk about. Maybe my family and I can take a ride on the Trolley. What do you guys think?
Part 2: Tommy's Joynt
For lunch, my dad and I went to Tommy's Joynt. We enjoy the good food there. Tommy's Joynt is one of San Francisco's longest living institutions. This place is founded by Tommy Harris & Al Pollack, and it's home to pastrami and of course barbecue pork. The next time I visit San Francisco, maybe we can plan on getting some lunch or dinner there. Leta wants to try that place too. She would think that she would try the pastrami sandwich.
Uncle Mark would also like to try some brisket pork and beans with a side of fries and cole slaw. Just a thought. Tommy's Joynt is also an affordable bar. Their lean buffalo meat covering rice, started years ago as a one off, it became a staple they can’t let go, despite the rising costs and limited availability of buffalo meat they still offer it at a great price. I really like the art outside the place especially in the front entrance, even at the inside of the room. The atmosphere is fantastic and the food is wonderful.
