California Blog #18: The Holidays in California
The holidays are very important for families like us, including Thanksgiving. So, I've come up with some fresh ideas for future holiday spending with my family, the Klavers, and my friends, when I live in California again. First off before I start, I wanna take the time to remember to two Christmases I spend here when my family and I visited for vacation. The first one spending Christmas was in 1997 where I spent it with my grandparents. I'll never forget the time I got myself a Snoopy plush toy. Also the time I spent it here with the Klavers when my cousins were young. That second one was in 2005 when I got to do it again. That was the other time that year when I got the Camp Lazlo bobblehead plush dolls for Christmas. That was a great holiday for me. And someday when I move back here in California, I wanna plan on spending the holidays with them.
Okay, now on to the national holiday activity spending. So let's discuss the ten phases of the holidays.
PHASE ONE: January
When the new year comes in the end of December, we will celebrate New Year's Eve with a party at the Klavers. We can even enjoy some snacks, a barbecue with soda, and watch the ball drop in Times Square on TV. Another NYE idea. When we wanna celebrate, we find someplace downtown where we can party and have a good time. The counting down is the favorite part. And when it's New Year's Day, a new year begins. No champaign required.
PHASE TWO: February
When it's Valentine's Day, I can send in some valentines to my friends and family, including my friends that I know from Kansas.
PHASE THREE: March
When March comes as Daylight Savings Time begins, we ask about what to do for St. Patrick's Day. Then they say this, let's go see a St. Patrick's Day parade downtown. So when we do that, we watch the parade or maybe join the parade just like when I joined one in Lawrence Kansas. Then after the parade, we hang out downtown and find a place to eat lunch or dinner for this special holiday of green.
PHASE FOUR: April
When my birthday comes, maybe on a special day my family and friends will put together a surprise party somewhere. In the Klavers' house, somewhere in Santa Cruz, in San Francisco, downtown, or anywhere. Then when I come in not knowing where everybody is, I turn on the lights or let someone do that for me and they yell "SURPRISE!" and I be really happy to see this on this very special day.
PHASE FIVE: May
On the month of May when summer comes, we plan a Memorial Day barbecue outside in the backyard. We can have burgers, hot dogs, sides, soda, and snacks. We can even play some music, and party. On May 5th, we can celebrate Cinco de Mayo in downtown Santa Cruz with a Cinco de Mayo festival.
PHASE SIX: June
When summertime comes, we can hang out, have fun, go to the beach, anything.
PHASE SEVEN: July
When we celebrate the 4th of July, we will always go to the park and watch performances, then see the fireworks exploding through the sky celebrating Independence Day. Parties also included too.
PHASE EIGHT: October
When October comes, we celebrate Halloween which comes every year. I had an idea for next time we celebrate. Maybe a Halloween party at the Klavers' house. We get everything set up for the party, we invite everyone we know, I pick out the music that we love, set up the snacks, food, and soda, and of course hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters. Another idea for celebrating Halloween, maybe go trick-or-treating downtown. Just a though on that other one though.
PHASE NINE: November
When Thanksgiving comes that time of year, I come over to the Klavers' house to spend it with them along with my family and friends too. We hang out and eat turkey, watch football or watch the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special on TV, and as always be thankful for our family that we love.
PHASE TEN: December
When the holiday season comes, we celebrate Christmas on a winter break. I come over with my family to the Klavers' to celebrate Christmas and spend time with my family. Another idea for December is planning a Christmas party at the Klavers' house. My family and friends would really love that a lot. It would be really fun if I join in the holiday spending too.
And that was the ten phases of holiday spending activity.
Hey, if you guys can think of a custom holiday that we can celebrate of our own the next time I visit you, let me know what you wanna celebrate next. I really like to hear from all of you.
